Flax and hemp fibers are very much alike. So alike, in fact that it’s difficult to tell them apart without a microscope. Both are bast fibers harvested from within the woody stalks of their respective plants. With superb properties including their unmatched durability, high-absorbency, quick drying, thermoregulating, and stain and debris resistance they are ideal fibers for travel towels.
While hemp and linen textiles have been woven and worn since at least 8000 BC, both are making a well-deserved comeback. This is due to the highly desirable qualities the finished textiles have to offer as well as the positive environmental aspects of the plants. When grown responsibly, neither requires pesticides nor artificial irrigation, they grow very quickly, and they rehabilitate the soil.
Masters of Linen is a registered mark and sign of excellence. Requiring adherence to strict environmental, corporate and social standards, the certification guarantees linen with European traceability at each processing step; natural, sustainable and local, from European Flax® fibre to yarn and fabric.
Lava Linens towels are tightly woven with long smooth anti-static fibers so the sand, dirt and leaves remain in the outdoors instead of on your towel, on you, in your pack or in your home.
Simply machine wash your Lava Linens towels in cold water, no hotter than 60 degrees F.
Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry.
To achieve maximum absorbency, avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets.
Neck cooler:
Linen and hemp are thermoregulating. On hot days, dip your hand towel in the water and drape it around your neck to keep cool.
Sarong:
Wrap and tie your bath sheet around your waist.
Table cloth:
Spread out your bath sheet or XL beach towel/picnic blanket over a table or on the ground when dining al fresco.
Changing curtain:
Hang up the XL beach towel/picnic blanket for a bit of privacy while changing clothing.
Shade sail or awning:
Hang up your bath sheet or XL beach towel/picnic blanket to block the sun from entering your campsite or rig.
"Researchers find that over 1,000 metric tons of microplastic fall on 11 protected areas in the US annually. That’s the equivalent to over 120 million plastic water bottles.”
Matt Simon. “Plastic Rain is the New Acid Rain.” Wired Magazine. June 11, 2020.
Microplastics are tiny fragments from plastic products, and fibers shed from your synthetic clothing and gear. By simply opting to use a plant fiber Lava Linens towel instead of a microfiber towel, you can prevent up to 12 credit cards worth of microplastics from entering our air, water and soil every year.

Flax and hemp require only 3% of the water conventional cotton requires to grow.
*
Flax and hemp are carbon-sink plants absorbing more carbon while growing than they emit during harvesting and processing.

To go a step beyond, our flax and hemp are Masters of Linen® certified European Flax®. This guarantees no pesticides, no artificial irrigation, no GMOs and no defoliants were used or created in the cultivation and production of our flax and hemp.
It’s simple! Machine or hand wash in water up to 60 degrees with a gentle spin. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat. Remove promptly.
One of the greatest things about hemp and linen textiles is the more you use them the softer and more supple they will become! To speed up the softening process, use a longer wash cycle the first few washes. Avoid harsh detergents; water alone softens the fabric.
Also, avoid fabric softeners and dyer sheets as they may inhibit the absorbency of the towels.
Yes! The Woven Wonders towels dry significantly faster than your average bath towel. They also dry twice as fast as microfiber per ounce of water absorbed.
Absolutely!
The hand towel weighs 2.4oz and fold down to a 1.5” x 3” x 4.5” rectangle
The bath sheet weighs 9oz and folds down to a 5.5" x 5.5 x 2.5" cube.
The XL Beach Towel/Picnic Blanket weighs 20oz and folds down to a 9.5” x 2.5” x 8” rectangle
Very! They absorb up to 50% more water than microfiber towels of the same size!
All products in the Woven Wonders line are pre-washed and preshrunk. Therefore, if you continue to care for them by washing them in cold water and drying on low heat, they will not shrink.
Nope! All products in the Woven Wonders line are pre-washed and ready to use right out of the package!
One of the most prized qualities of linen and hemp is the way it reflects nature – perfectly imperfect. Unlike manmade fibers and plant fibers like cotton, linen and hemp fibers meander from thick to thin with nubs and slubs throughout the textile. The variation enhances the texture and does not affect the integrity of the material.
We look over our linen and hemp prior to crafting our towels and after every towel is created to ensure there are no variations beyond what is considered natural for bast fiber textiles.
