Hemp and TENCELTM Lyocell are highly complementary of each other and ideal for eco-conscious adventurers. TENCELTMLyocell offers instant softness while hemp wears in beautifully. Both are more durable and more absorbent than cotton and microfiber. What's more, they're very fast drying and naturally antimicrobial.
While hemp textiles have been woven and worn since at least 8000 BC, they are finally making a well-deserved comeback. This is due to the highly desirable qualities the finished textile has to offer as well as the positive environmental aspects of the plants. When grown responsibly, hemp grows very quickly without the use of pesticides and artificial irrigation while rehabilitating the soil.
At the same time, thanks to technological advances, new high-performing, eco-responsible fibers like TENCELTM Lyocell are now widely available and serve as an excellent complementary fiber to hemp.
These are the fibers of the future.
Lava Linens towels are tightly woven with long smooth anti-static fibers so the sand, dirt and leaves remain in the outdoors instead of on your towel, on you, in your pack or in your home.
Simply machine wash your Lava Linens towels in cold water, no hotter than 60 degrees F.
Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry.
To achieve maximum absorbency, avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets.
Instead of setting your keys and sunglasses amongst the rocks at the river's edge, hook them on your towel!
Hypoallergenic, antistatic and without the chemicals microfiber is laced with, your skin will love the instant yet gentle sweat and water absorption experience.
Bandana (hand towel):
Simply loop one corner through the hemp loop and you have an instant bandana! Dip it in cool water first for an extra refreshing experience.
Sweat towel (hand towel):
Wipe the sweat away with your new favorite antimicrobial workout accessory.
Picnic napkin (hand towel):
Perfect for holding a handful of snacks in your lap or as a quick and easy napkin.
Sarong (bath sheet):
Wrap and tie your bath sheet around your waste.
It is literally raining microplastics. One of the main culprits? Synthetic textiles.
"Researchers find that over 1,000 metric tons of microplastics fall on 11 protected areas in the US annually. That’s the equivalent to over 120 million plastic water bottles.”
Matt Simon. “Plastic Rain is the New Acid Rain.” Wired Magazine. June 11, 2020.
The good news is, we can turn this around. Microplastics are tiny fragments from plastic products and plastic fibers shed from our synthetic clothing and gear. By simply opting to use a plant-fiber Lava Linens towel instead of a microfiber towel, you can prevent up to 12 credit cards worth of microplastics from entering our air, water and soil every year.
Better for the planet.
While microfiber is made from petroleum and contains thousands of chemicals known to harm the environment and human health, hemp and lyocell come from easy to grow, climate-friendly plants.
Hemp is a regenerative carbon sink plant, requiring zero pesticides and 40x less water than cotton to grow.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers have gained a commendable reputation for their environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms sustainably sourced wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low environmental impact. This solvent-spinning process recycles process water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%.
It’s simple! Machine or hand wash in cold water up to 60 degrees on a gentle spin with like colors. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat. Remove promptly.
Yes! The Travera towels dry just as fast as most microfiber towels and significantly faster than cotton towels.
Absolutely! The hand towel weighs a mere 1.9oz and folds down tiny. The bath sheet weighs only 7.6oz and rolls down to the size of a soda can.
Very! They absorb the same amount of water as microfiber towels while offering a much better drying experience. They also absorb more water than cotton per ounce of fiber.
Slightly. The dimensions we list are approximately what you can expect after washing in cold water and drying on low heat.
Yes. You'll notice a significant improvement in absorbency after the first wash. And while the Travera starts out soft, you'll notice it will become even softer the more you use it and wash it. Wear it in!
