"We spent almost a year searching for linen with the perfect weight and texture for our first adventure towels. We knew we wanted a towel that was different, that when you held it in your hand you would immediately recognize its durability and craftsmanship. And that when you used it, you wouldn’t believe how well it absorbed the water and how it continued to get better over time.
Finally, the hard work, patience and persistence paid off with a sample that arrived from France. We knew then, we found exactly what we were looking for.
We are thrilled to provide adventurers of all kinds with a towel that outperforms all others."
~Mary, CEO + Co-founder
Masters of Linen is a registered mark and sign of excellence. Requiring adherence to strict environmental, corporate and social standards, the certification guarantees linen with European traceability at each processing step; natural, sustainable and local, from European Flax® fibre to yarn and fabric.
Lava Linens towels are tightly woven with long smooth anti-static fibers so the sand, dirt and leaves remain in the outdoors instead of on your towel, on you, in your pack or in your home.
Simply machine wash your Lava Linens towels in cold water, no hotter than 60 degrees F.
Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry.
To achieve maximum absorbency, avoid fabric softeners and dryer sheets.
It comes down to the very special combination of climate and soil paired with centuries of knowledge and artisanship of local flax growers, scutchers and weavers.
Floor mat:
Spread it out across sharp, gravel-laden trailheads or on rocky shores. It will protect your bum and your feet as you change your shoes or take a rest.
Neck cooler:
Linen is thermoregulating. On hot days, dip your Everything Towel in the lake and drape it around your neck to keep cool.
Sun protector:
The tight, dense weave offers protection from the sun. Drape your Everything Towel over your legs as you paddle or across your shoulders as you hike.
Luxurious dog towel:
Dry off your adventurous pup after a day full of play.
Small blanket:
Linen (flax) is thermoregulating. On cooler days, drape your bath towel or bath sheet over your shoulders or legs to stay warm.
"Researchers find that over 1,000 metric tons of microplastic fall on 11 protected areas in the US annually. That’s the equivalent to over 120 million plastic water bottles.”
Matt Simon. “Plastic Rain is the New Acid Rain.” Wired Magazine. June 11, 2020.
Microplastics are tiny fragments from plastic products, and fibers shed from your synthetic clothing and gear. By simply opting to use a plant fiber Lava Linens towel instead of a microfiber towel, you can prevent up to 12 credit cards worth of microplastics from entering our air, water and soil every year.

Flax and hemp require only 3% of the water cotton requires to grow and both are carbon-sink plants.

To go a step beyond, our flax and hemp are Masters of Linen® certified European Flax®. This guarantees no pesticides, no artificial irrigation, no GMOs and no defoliants were used or created in the cultivation and production of our flax and hemp.
It’s simple! Machine or hand wash in water up to 60 degrees with a gentle spin. Hang to dry or tumble dry on low heat. Remove promptly.
One of the greatest things about linen towels is the more you use them the softer and more supple they will become!
Tip: To speed up the softening process, simply use a longer wash cycle. Avoid harsh detergents.
Yes, they dry significantly faster than your average bath towel! They also dry twice as fast as microfiber per ounce of water absorbed.
Absolutely! While they are made of a midweight material, they still pack down much smaller than a typical bath towel. If weight is a significant factor, we recommend checking out our lightweight Woven Wonders and ultralight Travera towels.
Very! Everything towels absorb up to 50% more water than microfiber towels of the same size!
Shrinking will depend largely on how you choose to care for your Everything Towel.
Washing in cold water and drying on a low temperature will nearly eliminate shrinking entirely.
Yes. Your Everything Towel will be significantly more absorbent after the first wash. Wash with like colors.
One of the most prized qualities of linen is the way it reflects nature – perfectly imperfect. Unlike manmade fibers and cellulose fibers like cotton, linen fibers meander from thick to thin with nubs and slubs throughout the textile. The variation enhances the texture and does not affect the integrity of the material.
We look over our linen prior to crafting our towels and after every towel is created to ensure there are no variations beyond what is considered natural for linen fiber textiles.
